Oneness (TAW'HID)
is the very basis of the religion of Islam. It is of
absolute importance to have a full understanding of it in
order to know Islam. Oneness is divided into three
essential branches.
The oneness of
confirmation

This aspect of Oneness (Taw'hid)
teaches us that it is only GOD who has created all things
and that nothing in His creation is comparable to Him. GOD
says in the Holy Quran: "And if you ask them who has created
the Heavens and the Earth, they say “It is GOD."
The oneness of
worship

The second aspect of Taw'hid is
particularly characteristic of Islam. It excludes all other
than GODas object of worship. The early polytheists may
well have been convinced that GOD as the creator but that
did not prevent them from worshipping also Lat, Ozza,
Houbal, which made them idolaters.
The oneness of the
beautiful names of GOD

This aspect of Taw'hid tells us that it
is only GOD who is the perfect essence of all of His names
and attributes. We know from the traditions (hadith)
that GOD as 99 names or attributes, although other names
are also added to the list. The Prophet (Blessings and
peace of GOD be upon him) said “Oh Lord, I call on you in
the names You Yourself have revealed to us and by other
names which are not of these.” The 99 Names or Attributes
of GOD.
